I am still having rape dreams. Janet Malcolm was right: Psychoanalysis merely dulls the neuroses; it does not cure.
What went on in my analysis reinforced the familial feelings of rape I had grown up with. The Analyst did nothing to help dispel them.
In the end, he was more concerned about his particular methodology and theory than he was about my unique situation--or how his seductiveness affected me.
Recently, I received an email (from an analyst) with the following comment: Too much emphasis is placed on the relationship; more should be placed on the process. To my mind, the two are the same.
